George Brady was born February 18, 1823 in Virginia. The son of Thomas and Jemima (Culver) Brady, both natives of Canada. The family moved to Seneca County, Ohio where Thomas Brady died in 1839. On the death of his father the maintenance of the family fell on George and soon after they moved to Sandusky County, Ohio. In 1847 they moved to Fulton County, Ohio where he worked as a carpenter. There he met and married Alvira Davis, daughter of John and Permelia (Hadley) Davis. Their first child, Eugene was born in Fulton County in 1854. In 1856 the family moved to Croton Township, Newaygo County, Michigan. Two years later they made their final move, to Aetna Township, Mecosta County, Michigan. There they had an 80 acre farm and George was a Mecosta County Surveyor.
